Trout Fishing With Corn – Baits From the Grocery Store

Trout Fishing With CornBefore the advent of synthetic and pre-packed bait, old-fashioned bait were used for trout fishing. This post aims to educate you about the bait the ol’timers used.  Let’s see if trout fishing with corn is as fun and challenging as trout fishing with contemporary bait.

Trout Fishing With Corn and Other Bait

Believe it or not, old-fashioned bait come from grocery stores.  Examples of these kinds of bait include:

  • Marshmallows – marshmallows are those white, chewy delights that kids want to eat all the time.  I personally feel that this treat is too precious to give away to trout.  Anyways, you can skewer your marshmallow to your single hook and wait for the trout to take a bite.  The great thing about marshmallows is that they project different odors which attract the trout even more.  Oh yea, they easily fall off so secure them well to your hooks.
  • Cheese – you can put in any cheese you want. You can slice, shred, and arrange the cheese in blocks.  You can do anything you want.  Cheese as a bait is most effective when cheese is old, oily and stinky.  They’d make a great addition to live baits.  Or if you are too busy to slice or shred cheese, you can always use canned cheese.  Just spray it on to your hook and you’re good to go.
  • Corn – corn has been the fundamental alternative trout fishing bait for many years. There are several ways to fish using corn.  You can attach corn to a rod.  Tossing corn into the water is a great idea too.  This way trout will come up to the surface.  You can also throw corn into a current if you want.

These old-fashioned baits, however old they are, give us a unique opportunity to catch trout in a new and exciting way.  Trout fishing with corn, in particular, is challenging and fun.  Aside from fun, they’re easy and cheap to get.  Just go to your nearest grocery store and you can find yourself all manner of bait.  There you go!  However, you should only use these kinds of bait if you are sure that you are keeping your catch.

So go out there and give trout fishing with corn a try.
